The word Vitamin comes from the Latin derivative Vita or ‘life’, which originates from Vitality.

Vitamins (and minerals) are organic compounds (nutrients) that are ESSENTIAL for survival and thrival…Yeah I made that word up.

They take part in every metabolic process you can think of, and more that you wouldn’t.

👊🏻 Growth

👊🏻 Repair

👊🏻 Digestion

👊🏻 Energy transfer

👊🏻 nervous system function

👊🏻 Immunity

👊🏻 Hormone secretion

👊🏻 Skin, hair and nail health

Above all else, one of the most important roles vitamins play, is to act as co-factors for enzymes…Yep, that confused me at first as well.

In a nut shell, this means they work behind the scenes to make the ‘big stuff’ happen. They are like the people behind the scenes in a theatrical production. They aren’t on stage, but they help with the stage floor, lighting, costumes, make up timing, drinks etc…I can’t think of anything else 🤣 I should’ve use a football example 🤷🏻‍♂️

Anyway, you catch my drift.

For example that metaphorical theatrical example, relates like so…

Carbohydrates give us energy. Vitamin-B1 (Thiamin) helps as a co-enzyme to create the reaction for the energy to be used. Without Thiamin, we are just consuming carbs, thinking we are getting energy, but in reality we may feel lethargic, heavy and frustrated due to a lack of Thiamin being at hand to help with the transfer process. So having carbs alone won’t just give us energy.

Another example is Vitamin B9 (Folate) helps break down Vitamin B12 (Cobalamin) & Vitamin-C which are responsible for the maintenance of a healthy nervous system (chemical messaging for hormones, nerve impulses for movement, organ functioning) and immunity.

Indirect and direct networking between organic compounds (nutrients) is essentially the system for heath, vitality, weight management and fitness development.
