We all desire that place of belonging, we all want acceptance and we all want happiness from that narrative.

It wouldn’t be normal if that wasn’t the case, it’s human nature to want that.

Here’s the secret with that, it comes from within you. Not from the approval or ‘sanctioning from others.

Yes, that’s obvious I hear you say, but but but, when you really think about your patterns, thoughts and actions, is there alignment with what you say as an outcome to reading that sentence to how you run your routines, mentally and physically?

Consciously, most people would probably say…”well I don’t need that”, and then continue to run those subconscious loops that contradict those words.

That’s ok though, there’s nothing wrong with that, because that is the place of an individuals growth and point of journey, that’s how we learn and develop, by gaining feedback from information to access more authentic abundance and congruency with our inner selves. And genuinely, the penny drop moment in the act of identifying the need for self growth and change is as exciting as the journey itself, but we all come to those moments in our own time.

We all have those challenges and deserve the opportunity to learn and grow at our own pace without the condemning judgement from others…ESPECIALLY when it comes to the fragility of improving our health and fitness and smashing through those emotional barriers that give us a stronger hold on our output.

So then, this concept in a nut shell:

Hierarchically = comparison to others for ‘progress’, seeking external acceptance for validation, control and happiness at the whim of the judgement other people’s, thoughts and expectations, this ultimately is centred around impressing people.

Territorially = Self validated, self-directed, growth orientated and in control, this is often met with resistance from society because it sits outside what the majority will deem to be ‘normal’, this is ultimately centred around you being the authentic you.

There will always be an interesting take from different perceptions on these notions, this will help create some clarity for that….

If you were the last person on the planet, would you still do that action?

We could go down so many routes here, as per the though I shall keep it based on the narrative of health and fitness.

Here we go:

Hierarchically – Typically weight focused, defines success from the feedback of the scales, judges progress on weight, this narrative fits into the expectation of what the social ‘norm’ is for what is accepted as fit and healthy, ‘diet based’. This dynamic often over looks fundamental key principles and creates a yo-yo quit culture that places true health and fitness ‘out of reach’ because of the crab bucket mentality.

Territorially – Goal orientated on practical progression, learning principles that empower and create cognitive development as well as physical (yes weight can still be a factor in that) progress, takes council in the importance of health and fitness and relates that to be being a fitter, happier, more centred being for themselves.

The difference between those, is the place where you can use this concept to help reaffirm and/or realign more so with your core reasons for WHY your health and fitness is important to you.

When it comes down to:

  • Higher levels of confidence.
  • A Lower risk of decease (CV disease, osteoporosis, diabetes etc).
  • Higher levels of productivity.
  • Stress outlets.
  • You time.
  • A healthy sustainable weight management system, fat loss, an increase of muscle, better movement and more support for your joints.
  • A positive mental stimulation through endorphins.
  • High energy levels and increased vitality through nourishing foods, appropriate balance and sleep.
  • Self motivation and inner drive.

All of that lot exceeds far more so than being a certain weight on the scales because that’s what ‘fits the social norm’ or if a person gets enough ‘likes’…

When it comes down to it, if you were the only person on this planet, you wouldn’t care about your weight or what other people think, you’d be active to find food, aware of being hydrated and safe, basically serving your default needs for the foundation of the thrival of the human animal.

This concept, this notion of self-development is a journey, this isn’t just a click of the fingers and everything you know to this date just disappears, the key is to align with the principles, and work on being consistent with those learnings, that’s where the change is…and that may be a different timeline than it is for you compared to the person next to you, but that’s ok, as long as you are putting one foot in front of the other, that’s all that matters.

Lastly, just have a gander at the featured image for this blog/vlog article…. when you change the way you look at things, the things you look at change and if the things you are looking at are principally sound, you take off and elevate.

Much love, keep fit, safe and healthy.
